🏆 Who's Behind It: Givens Aldersgate

Most Charlotteans know Aldersgate as the big retirement campus off Shamrock Drive in east Charlotte. It is a life plan community, which means residents can move through independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing and rehab without leaving the campus. It also runs a home care service, now called Givens Aldersgate at Home, that sends caregivers out into Charlotte neighborhoods.

The name is new. Aldersgate completed an affiliation with Asheville-based Givens Communities in 2025 and took the Givens name in October 2025. Business North Carolina reported the Charlotte campus is home to nearly 600 residents, which explains why a single community needs its own drivers, its own security staff and its own housekeeping crew.

💼 The Four Jobs on the Table

Goodwill's listing names four positions and nothing more. Here is what each usually involves at a campus like this.

Transportation driver: getting residents to doctor's appointments, errands and outings. Expect a clean driving record and a background check to come up.
Home care: helping older adults with daily routines, either on campus or in their own homes across Charlotte.
Security officer: covering a large residential campus around the clock, which usually means nights and weekends are part of the deal.
Housekeeper: keeping apartments, care areas and common spaces clean.
